St Rita’s College girls’ secondary school in Clayfield has opened the first phase of its new building project – a state-of-the-art Pantry. Open from 7:30am to 4:30pm each weekday, Panayia’s Pantry serves the 1000 students plus staff from breakfast through to late afternoon.
The progressive outlet is keeping up with today’s food culture and offering food as an experience, not just a product. Transparent menus, healthy dishes, a focus on seasonality and sustainably-sourced foods are a priority. The name ‘Panayia’ comes from the Greek word for ‘Our Lady’. The original Panayia’s Pantry at the College was opened in 1996 as part of the College’s construction of a new technology building. It was one of the few school canteens in Australia at the time that employed a qualified chef.
The St Rita’s College Café is run in partnership with Wolff Espresso at Hendra, offering Barista coffees and ‘On Trend’ teas to Years 10–12 students and staff. The qualified chefs use a range of new suppliers to produce a wide-ranging menu, with many items made on-site.
The Café remains open until 4:30pm allowing the girls to grab a bite to eat and a beverage prior to heading off to sport or to study in the Library.
The College’s new Learning Precinct, due for completion later this year, will be the first school venue in Australia to use the new technology software, Utelogy. The precinct bolsters the academic, arts and communal experience for the students, providing 12 exceptional learning spaces for a range of subjects and be home for the performing arts and film, television and new media programs. The 400-seat auditorium, equipped with the latest in audio-visual technology, will offer a state-of-the-art venue for drama, musical theatre, ensemble, band and solo performances.
