Queensland state schools are on their way to saving more than 20,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year thanks to the installation of solar power panels, as part of the Queensland Government’s $60 million Solar and Energy Efficiency in State Schools program.
Education Minister Geoff Wilson said schools would receive an energy monitoring system so staff and students could monitor how much energy their new solar panels and energy efficient lighting were saving. “Not only does this save energy, but it’s also a great learning tool for teachers and students showing in practical ways how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” he said.
