Product Safety Warning On Baby Slings

Jun 2010
The Office of Fair Trading is warning Queensland parents and caregivers to be cautious when using baby slings on babies younger than four months old.
Minister Peter Lawlor said three babies in the United States died last year as a result of suffocation while in a baby sling. Suffocation can be caused by either a sling’s fabric pressing against a baby’s nose and mouth and blocking their breathing, or babies without strong neck control flopping their head forward and restricting their ability to breathe. “It is recommended that parents and caregivers make sure the infant’s face is not covered and is visible at all times,” Mr Lawlor said.
