Some say Australian women really are too posh to push, with a national report on the hospital system showing private patients are much more likely to have a caesarean than public patients.
Across Australia, 42% of pregnant women who go private have a caesarean, compared with 27% of women in public hospitals. Australian Department of Health and Ageing said more than 86,000 women had caesareans across both systems in 2007-08.
