Mercer builds her own legacy

It looks like 17 year old Jordan Mercer may be following in her family’s footsteps, as daughter of Coolangatta Gold winner Darren Mercer and niece of two-time Australian Ironman champion Dean. The budding iron woman produced one of the most remarkable performances in the history of Australian surf sports to dominate the Molokai 2 Oahu Paddleboard World Championship in Hawaii.

Jordan completed the 52km course in a record time of 5 hours 22.31 minutes, 28 minutes ahead of her nearest rival. Grant Kenny, a Sunshine Coast ironman great and one of Mercer’s coaches at the Noosa Surf Life Saving Club, said the victory had gone a long way to helping the youngster build her own legacy.
